The Lighthouse No One Thanks

The ships do not write letters

to the lighthouse.

They pass through the dark,

correct their course,

and arrive at morning

without remembering

what kept them from the rocks.

But the lighthouse

was never asking for thanks.

It was asking:

are you still out there?

Then I will still be here.

It is simply standing

where no one has learned

to look yet.
